K+K Tactics: Sub species aeternitatis
19/05/11 || Altmer
I have always asked myself what the function is of bands like this. I am not seeing the actual metal in this, it’s more a sort of freestyle jam exercise with a lot of excellent bass playing. There’s barely any guitar, just bass and drums with the drums providing a rhythmic backbone and the bass providing most of the lead work. Not to fault the dudes’ skills, they’re pretty sick, and as a tech exercise it’s quite interesting, but overall, as a demo? I’m not sure of the point. If you think the jazzy moments from Cynic were a good idea, this demo provides you with the extended version of those moments.
The random growled vocals at the beginning of every song are extremely off-putting, though. I really don’t understand why they had to add these. Oh well. It’s not too bad overall.
6/10: And these points are for the sick rhythm skills alone.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
